The collet sits in an MT5 taper sleeve. What I mean is that I can (1) remove the drawbar then (2) extract the MT5 taper sleeve from the grinder and the collet is still in the sleeve, still gripping the 10mm ground pin too tightly for me to remove it with my fingers. To get the collet free I need to "thunk" the threaded rim of the collet with a length of 20mm diameter brass rod. Then the collet pops out of the MT5 taper sleeve, and the 10mm ground pin pops out of the collet.

Your analysis of the release lever action is correct. Otherwise why are there hooks on the cam piece? BUT it does not work as designed, because the amount of free motion is only a mm or two, and the spindle is spring loaded to the left and has more than a mm or two of free motion to the right. So moving the lever to the right just pushes the spindle out to the right. This would work correctly on a machine where the spindle axial motion was blocked both to the left and to the right.

I have not yet tried to "snap" because I don't have the system mounted correctly yet. The one that I got is for a later model of this grinder and so I needed to make some bushings and other parts for mounting it. I'm far enough along to verify the operation, but haven't yet modified the mounting bracket so that I can mount it properly and "snap" the handle. But it takes quite a wallop to free this, so I suspect that something else is wrong.

A collet is a form of chuck, but it is not identical. The er collet chuck derived its name by combining the already established E-collet with the first letter of the development brand – Rego-Fix.
